Virtual Voices | Creating Spaces of Belonging for Refugees
April 21, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
| FREEColorado has a long history of welcoming newcomers, including refugees. An estimated 60,000 people who have fled their home countries now call Colorado home. Today, we are observing a major refugee crises – the sixth-largest refugee outflow over the past 60-plus years, with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Join us for a conversation that will place the current crisis in context while exploring the unique intersectionality of living as both a refugee and a person of color in Colorado. Our presenters, representing experts from Colorado Refugee Services, Project Worthmore, and Colorado Refugee Speakers Bureau, will provide an overview of the history of our refugee populations in Colorado, insights to better understand the needs and identities of newcomers, the distinct challenges they navigate, and some of the cultural and financial tools available to provide support for refugee populations in Colorado.
