Alan Alda once said, “Begin challenging your own assumptions. Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in while, or the light won’t come in.”

The Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation challenges leaders’ assumptions about statewide issues – and how other communities are combating them – each year on Colorado Experience. Last week, the Leadership Foundation and 90 business and community leaders headed about 70 miles south to Olympic City USA: Colorado Springs.

In 48 hours, the delegation got to know one of the premier collegiate leadership programs at the U.S. Air Force Academy – as well as how cadets are leading innovations in cybersecurity – saw innovative work to protect giraffe herds globally with work done at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and heard from tech entrepreneurs about why they do business in Colorado, and Colorado Springs in particular.

And, they heard from Lt. Gov. Donna Lynne and Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers about the underlying issues facing the state and Colorado Springs.
